Our mission is to provide parents of children with special needs with the tools needed to achieve an optimum quality of life for the child and the family.
OUR PHILOSOPHY:
We believe parents are the experts on their children and have the most
influence on a child’s life. Our treatment plans promote parents as the
causative agents of change who have tremendous power to support their child’s
development in all areas, including sensorimotor, social, communicative,
emotional, and cognitive domains. Click here to download our brochure.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
In our practice we follow a set of specific principles which we believe promote the most effective path to progress and improvement in quality of life for our clients. The intervention programs we provide have the following characteristics:
Parent-Driven: Interventions which are led by parents and involve parent education and support have the greatest likelihood of providing maximum benefit to the child. Not only is the child able to receive countless more hours of therapeutic interaction when parents are involved, but our programs assist parents in feeling more competent and connected in their daily interactions with the child. The training parents receive in our offices carries over into daily life and results in much more cost-effective programming overall.
Developmental: Program objectives must begin at the child's current level of competence on all levels, including neurodevelopmental, social, communicative, emotional, and thinking skills. To teach a child at his or her chronological age when the foundation skills are not developed will only result in frustration, limited use of splinter skills, and lack of real-world competence in various aspects of the child's life. We coach parents to become aware of where the child is developmentally so they can continue making meaningful progress.
Quality of Life: Our objective is to assist parents in developing children's foundations for real-world competence to achieve Quality of Life in the long-term. Quality of Life includes meaningful friendships, job satisfaction, and independent living. Every adult's ability to achieve a good quality of life is built on the foundation of their first relationship with caregivers. This relationship is how children learn curiosity, creative thinking, emotional connections and problem-solving. Families who receive our parent coaching report less stress and more normalized family functioning as they are able to prioritize goals and simplify their lifestyles. As a result, the entire family can experience a better quality of life as parents are able to move out of a crisis state and into a state of growth and shared experiences.
Holistic: We understand every child is part of a larger family system where many variables factor into his or her development. In addition, each individual person is affected by multiple systems: internal systems such as sensory systems or the digestive system, as well as external systems like the school environment or home environment. Our program planning process integrates the systems which may be affecting your child's development, as well as the parent's resources for carrying out the intervention. We provide referrals to other providers who may be able to assist families who need additional support, such as Nutritional Consultation or Marital Counseling.
Dynamic: We believe it is important for interventions to be dynamic and adaptable to each individual as opposed to a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. The programs we offer have specific protocols which are designed to individualize the program to each individual and each family situation. In addition, our programs are based on the latest research and clinical experience of active practitioners. We believe it is important for therapy providers to maintain current in research and therapy approaches. For this reason our consultants participate in extensive continuing education each year in addition to reading journals in the fields of autism, neuropsychology, education, developmental disabilities and neuroscience.
